Toy Museum (Speelgoedmuseum)

Behind the railroad line, the Speelgoedmuseum exhibits old and new toys and objects of folk-art. The collection is displayed in 30 departments in almost 23 000 square foot. The whole musueum has fairy-like atmosphere that both young and old will enjoy.

St. Rombouts Cathedral
Grote Markt, 2800 Mechelen.
The metropolitan Sint-Rombouts Cathedral was completed as far as the choir in 1342 when a fire broke out. In 1375 reconstruction was finished. In modern Mechelen the tower dominates its surroundings and is easily recognisable with its flat top. The church has important works of art such as the painting “Christ on the Cross” by Anton van Dyck and The Clock Tower is a UNESCO site. There is also a small archealogical museum in the churchyard, open from Easter to October at weekends.

Houses on the Haverwerf
Haverwerf, 2800 Mechelen.
To the right of the bridge by the Haverwerf on the corner of Kraanstraat, you can find several houses with very fine facades partly made of wood. Especially attractive are the so-called Paradies with the representation of Adam and Eve on the arch of the door, the Duivelshuis and the Huis Sint-Josef.

Town Museum (Hof van Busleyden Museum)

The Hof van Busleyden is an attractive Gothic brick building from 1507, with a flower-decked inner courtyard and a belfry. The buildings house the Town Museum of Mechelen with departments of Civic History, Arts and Crafts and Customs, a selection of pictures and a carillon museum. The little house in the corner is the carillon school.

If you want to make your break an educational one, you must visit this hands-on centre for science and technology. This is one museum where you can touch everything, proving that science can be fun too.
