My Flanders

Antwerp

Antwerp is rapidly bumping Amsterdam off the number one spot of gay destinations in Europe. In the gay scene, this city on the river Schelde made its mark with the mega party event 'NaviGAYtion' a few years ago and today boasts a very thriving gay community. Thanks to the success of 2007's Eurogames and Antwerp Pride, the city recognises the importance of the gay community and gladly supports it.

In addition to the magnificent architecture and vast range of museums Antwerp is the most important trading centre for diamonds in the world and a stronghold of the European fashion scene. This hip and funky city is full of fashion, art and culture. The days are sure to be as pleasurable as the nights.

There isn't one specific gay area in Antwerp; you will find gay friendly bars, restaurants and clubs all over the city. There are also specific gay venues and parties and the variation is sure to tickle your fancy, whatever it may be. It is typical for locals to start the night later, around 11 or 12, and stay out till the early hours. So, make sure you're well rested and ready to enjoy Antwerp's fabulous gay nightlife.

"A long weekend in Antwerp left me exhausted but effervescent, satiated and smiling. Forget any preconceived ideas you have about this glorious city. There really is something for everyone. Flanders is faaaaabulous!" Matt Joshua, QX Magazine
